how bound could (rock).

— We hope to use a lot of great music in Bound. The primary theme and score, though, will tailor to the cultural traits of the final setting. For now, here’s a few songs (and styles) that got the heaviest rotation on the writing playlist, and to be honest, should feature in the series regardless.

If I had it my way, the series would open with a set piece featuring “People Get Ready.” A good picture’s gotta have some soul and sure it comes from writing and performance, but also, you could just cheat and bring in Aretha Franklin to go off and make ya face scrunch and ya knees buckle.

Working on Bound has opened me up to another world of music that I’d not really experienced. One of my favorites from that new direction is Machito, the Cuban composer. “Congo Mulence” is outstanding; it’s a smooth jam, an anthem and a dance track(?) all at once. Or at least, all come together.

how Bound could (hear).

— Not just the music, but also the atmosphere will come together once a final filming location is selected. And we do hope to be on-location. That decision will affect the language you hear (by the local characters) as well as the life in the background like the surrounding nature, the city streets, on down to what’s being cooked in a kitchen. Finally, sound will play a large role in detailing the contemporary history taking place in the story setting.

As of now, the setting is envisioned as more Caribbean (thus the Latin Jazz above) and the initial scouting for filming locales has covered cities in that region and the development scripts feature attributes found there.
